In the diocese of Veszpr\u00e9m, copies sent in from parishes since 1895 were arranged in alphabetical order and bound into volumes each year.<\/section>\n<\/section>\n

n the diocese of Veszpr\u00e9m, from 1895, when the collection of duplicate copies of parish registers began, the copies sent in from the parishes were arranged in alphabetical order and bound into volumes each year.<\/section>\n

For example, the data sent in from October 1, 1895, only filled six volumes, while in the last year currently available, 1934, there are already sixteen volumes; in the latter year, the first volume contains copies from parishes between Ajka and Bakonyszombathely in alphabetical order. Until now, the duplicate copies could be searched in archival order, in the order in which the volumes were arranged. However, the names of the settlements and thus the parishes were not uniform, so it happened, for example, that the registry data of today’s B\u00facs\u00faszentl\u00e1szl\u00f3 had to be searched for under the letter B, or Szentl\u00e1szl\u00f3egyh\u00e1za under the letter S.<\/p>\n

Following repeated requests from researchers, new IT developments now allow duplicate copies of parish registers dating back to 1895 to be searched in the order in which they were created; however, we have retained the option of searching in archival and chronological order. In practical terms, this means that our registered and subscribed e-researchers can choose between the VFL I.1.24 archival series and the duplicate copies of the parish registers in terms of the structure in which they wish to conduct their research.<\/p>\n

While sorting the photographs of duplicate copies of parish registers by parish, we also discovered gaps where parish registers from certain parishes were missing for a given year, which we marked on the research interface. The indication of the parish’s year cycle also refers to its year of foundation, if it fell between 1895 and 1934.<\/p>\n

Of course, it is possible that the sorting of photos was not entirely successful and that some photos may be found under the wrong parish.
